A Leading U.S. Prepared Foods Producer Modernizes Its Print Center and Keeps More Print In-House

Customer overview

A leading U.S. prepared foods producer runs its own in-house print center. Even so, it still sent envelopes and business cards to outside printers.

FlexTG assessed the whole operation, from how print requests came in to how jobs were produced, finished and reported, and designed a solution around it.

Five Problems Slowing the Print Center Down

The assessment found five problems. Envelopes and business cards still went to outside print providers, which was expensive, wasteful and slow. Multipart forms ran on the digital presses, causing excessive downtime and missed deadlines.

The center also had limited color and finishing for saddle-stitched booklets. Print requests arrived by email and on paper, with no view of job status. Reporting was limited, and department chargebacks were a manual, time-consuming process.

More Than New Equipment

FlexTG built one production environment around the customer’s real jobs. Each device has a clear role, and the Web2Print solution ties the work together, from request to detailed reporting.

The new environment includes:

  • Canon imagePRESS V800 with inline Plockmatic Booklet Maker for color saddle-stitched booklets
  • Canon varioPRINT 115 for dedicated black-and-white production
  • Duplo DC-618 integrated with Fiery Impose for automated cutting
  • RISO digital color press for envelopes and multipart forms
  • PrintNet Web2Print for online ordering, job status alerts and reporting

Online ordering, status updates and reports on job volumes, demand and costs mean less manual work from request to finished project, better decisions and support for chargebacks.

One Connected Print Service

The print center now runs as one connected service, not a collection of devices. Envelopes, business cards and other jobs print in the center instead of going to outside print providers.

Multipart forms run on the RISO, which helps keep the main presses free for the work they are meant for. Inline booklet making and automated cutting mean fewer separate finishing steps, and business card templates help keep cards in line with corporate identity guidelines.
